I have always felt that Trace was one of the most underappreciate stars in country music. He always gives 110% at every show, and yet he's always passed over when time comes for awards.
After the meet and greet, Dianne and I made our way back to our seats in the second row and waited for the show to start. I was so happy with our seats, which were just a bit to the left of the center. I don't like sitting right in the middle because all the pictures you take have the microphone right in front of the person's face.
Right at 8:00 pm, Trace hit the stage. He had changed tops from the Meet and Greet, where he had on a long sleeve cream colored shirt, and now he had on a sleeveless cranberry shirt. Love those great looking arms! The show opened with "Songs About Me," as Trace worked both sides of the stage, giving us all the great eye candy to behold.
Next came an oldie, "Big Time," followed by "This Ain't No Thinkin' Thing," which was his first hit. He continued with hit after hit, without a lot of talking until he came to the introduction for "Arlington." That song always gives me chills and I had never heard him sing it live, so was really looking forward to this. Trace mentioned how some people thought this was a political song, but that it's a tribute to the men and women that fought for our freedom and died for it. The song always leaves a tear in my eye, especially the line "And it gave me a chill when he clicked his heels, and saluted me."
Trace said that he likes to pay tribute to those artists that influenced him, and Ronnie Milsap was one of those influences. With that, he sang "Stranger in the House."
Trace has been in the studio recording his new album, and he said that he'd like to try out a few of the songs to see how people like them in his shows. The first one he said "I don't know if this one will be played on the radio, but I think it should be the name of the album." The song was called "Dangerous Man." My friend and I both looked at each other in shock that he thought radio wouldn't play this song. It's a smash hit! I can't wait to hear more. I didn't have to wait long, as Trace played us one more song that would be on the next album. This one was called "Country Boy" and it was just as great.
Next came the rockin' part of the show with "Rough and Ready," followed by "Hot Mama," and then Trace replied, "How did Eve get Adam to eat the apple? I bet she waved her badonkadonk!" Yes, "Honky Tonk Badonkadonk" was the final song of the show. What a great ending. But, we knew more was to come, and as we stood and clapped and cheered, Trace and the band returned to the stage for the encore.
The encore was short, but we were happy for even just a little more Trace, as he sang "Chrome."
Trace Adkins puts on one of the best shows around, and while he's passed over for many awards shows, his fans totally love and support him, and I'll bet that he's gonna do really well at the CMT Music Awards this week, where the *fans* will tell who they think should win. He had my votes!
The show lasted around 1 hour and 20 minutes including the encore. I can't wait for the CMA Music Festival, when I can see Trace again.
